Cold Spring Orchard

What's New

Our Retail Store is Officially Open for the Season!
Our retail stand is now officially open for the season. We are currently selling Sansa, Gingergold, Paula Reds and Zestar apples, Orchard Honey and Store-made Jams and jellies.
Frigid Winter Temperatures Killed Our Peach Crop
Sadly, the frigid temperatures we experienced in February killed all of our peach and plum crop. Our apple crop is a bit lighter than usual but we will have plenty of apples to sell at our retail stand. Our retail stand will open August 22nd with apples.
Cold Spring Orchard Store will open August 22nd with Apples
Our retail stand will open Monday, August 22nd with apples. We should have Zestar, Sansa, Paula Reds and Gingergolds available. We also have our store-made jams and jellies and honey from our own bee hives.
Time to Trade our Snow Plow for the Field Plow
We have traded in the snow plow and mounted the field plow on the tractor. We are currently plowing and harrowing new fields in preparation for young trees that are arriving from nurseries around the country.
Soil Testing
We are currently taking soil samples of various blocks around the orchard so we can send them off to the UMASS Soils Lab to be analyzed. This will allow us to apply the appropriate amounts and kinds of fertilizer, helping us to comply with the new Mass Department of Agricultural Resources guidelines
Spring Has Sprung
We have been busy at the orchard preparing for the fast-approaching growing season. We have been getting tractors and equipment ready, switching out snow plows for field plows, collecting soil samples to be analyzed by The UMASS Soils Lab and installing and fixing trellis systems. Some extremely cold temperatures in January and February are most likely going to have a big impact on our crop. This early on it is hard to know just how much of our fruit crop will be effected. We will continue to monitor the flower buds and keep you updated.
